eXchange My Contacts!

This is a contacts and calendar provider for Microsoft Exchange users.  If your environment has Exchange Web Service (EWS), or you are using Outlook 365, you are ready to go!

The online documentation is here.

The link on Google Play.

The Main Screen is a series of tabs.

The Reminders tab (where supported) gives you your upcoming reminders.  You can Snooze and Dismiss reminders.

The Calendars tab gives you a list everyone’s calendar (if they are in your Exchange instance) sorted by contact.

The Search tab locates items from all of your folders: Tasks, Contacts, Calendar, Messages.  You can also include any Public Folders you have access to.

Calendar and Search can download any content associated with items.

The Action Bar contains handy “sync now” commands and access to logs.

How is it Different?

XMC does not require PC-based applications like ActiveSync.  It runs on your device and communicates directly to EWS over the Internet.

XMC separates your Exchange account from your other accounts.  This gives you control over how it interacts with the Contacts and Calendars App on your device.

What’s EWS?

This is a Web Service interface to Exchange.  It uses Secure HTTP (HTTPS), so all the data is encrypted.

Check with your Network and/or Email Administrator for availability.

How do I connect to EWS?

Using the EWS Autodiscover process, all you need is your email address, e.g. “me@mail.our-domain.com” and password.

The Autodiscover process is the recommended way to connect to all versions of Outlook, like Outlook 365 etc.

For EWS where Autodiscover is off or misconfigured, we still support NTLM, e.g. “Windows Authentication”.  You may have to configure manually.

Contacts App

The Contacts App on your device is the entry point to using Exchange My Contacts! features.

XMC works as a standard Contacts Sync provider.  You install it the same was as all other accounts.

Once you install the XMC Account, you must enable Sync on that account.  If you are using the Automatic Sync and Background Data options, this happens automatically.

Calendars App

The Calendar App on your device is where the Availability information shows up, in the form of Calendar Events.

XMC works as a standard Calendar Sync provider.  It gets installed with the Account provider.

XMC downloads Availability data for Contacts that have Mailboxes in your Exchange Server, and creates a Calendar for each one.

Exchange Calendar Events

To ensure getting calendar events, you must pick the Exchange Mailbox from the Global Address List for that Contact, and not a “regular” Internet email address.

XMC checks each email address the first time, to avoid requesting calendar info for non-Exchange contacts.

Notifications

XMC gives you control over Reminders.  You can notify in batch or individually.  Individual notifications have custom UI with Snooze and Dismiss buttons.
