Tablet users get tons of space for text, especially in landscape orientation.

Feed Farmer automatically attaches to open WiFi networks for downloading, no need to manually connect.

All attachments are added to your Media Gallery for ready access by your built-in media apps.

A Home Screen widget is also provided, that rotates through all your recent items.  Each item displays the title, some text, and a link to the Web version of the item.

Feed Reader Screen

The Feed Reader Screen gives you a very plain formatting of your feeds.

A number of plug-ins are selectable by the bottomost Gallery.  Each plug-in displays content in the Overlay Panel.

The Toggle Button in the lower-right corner controls the visibility of the Overlay Panel.

You can auto-rotate the screen by changing the device’s orientation.

The Feed List plug-in displays your feeds and their status in a Gallery format.

The Browser plug-in you can customize some of the formatting and browser settings for a better experience.  These are remembered for you.

Tilt-a-Scroll

There has to be a gimmick somewhere, and this is it!

This feature takes advantage of the same sensors that games use!

The Scroller plugin of the Reader Screen supports tilt-based scrolling of the displayed content.

You can adjust all the settings. The default tilt is 45 degrees. The default range is plus/minus 8 degrees.

As you tilt, you get feedback in the form of two arrows that fade in/out accordingly.

Manage Feeds

This screen presents a list of your feeds and their status.

You can modify the list via the Option Menu (Menu key) and edit each feed by clicking on it.

Adding a new feed is easy as selecting Insert, setting Enabled, and typing in the title and URL.

You can control which feeds participate in the Update Cycle by setting or clearing Enabled.

You can use the Check Url feature to query the URL, and verify the Media Type for RSS/Atom.

You can now omit the “http://” from the URL, and it gets added automatically.

Manage Attachments

This screen allows you to manage the attachment list, and attachment and playlist status.

You can play the media file (if it is in playlist) by clicking the entry.

You can use the Enabled flag to stop FF from downloading attachments.

The Option Menu has commands to delete everything, just the media file, or add/remove media file to/from playlist, and retry download.

Feed Discovery

Starting with 1.0.4. the Browser plugin will scan every http page you browse to, looking for HTML elements that point to RSS/Atom feeds.

If it finds any, a Gallery panel will appear, with a list of entries.  Use the context menu (long click) to activate a list of actions for an entry.

Live Folder

Starting with 1.0.4 you can add a Live Folder to your Home Screen.  Starting in the Home Screen:

  1. Menu Key,
  2. Add,
  3. Folders,
  4. Feed Farmer.
This puts the Live Folder on your Home Screen.
When you launch this Live Folder, it presents your feeds and attachments in order of recent activity.  Feeds are listed first, followed by attachments.
Selecting a Feed entry launches the Browser application to display the feed.
Selecting an Attachment entry launches the Media Player application to play the attachment.

Update Cycle

The Feed Farmer background service performs a regular Update Cycle on your feeds and any detected attachments.

Feeds are checked every two hours for status change.  This is done without downloading the feed if possible; otherwise the feed is downloaded every two hours.

Attachments are checked every 15 minutes, and a download is started if necessary.  All need-to-download attachments are queued up at-once.
